Is Opes Partners any good?

I whole heartedly believe in what Opes provide

The thing about Opes Partners is that they really are your 'partners' and truly want to help everyone work towards the best possible outcome regardless of situation.

As first time investors we, like so many others, were simply astounded by the information, support, team of people and affiliated companies that Opes provide. They put your mind at ease and help guide you through the 10 year plan and process making it exciting and unbelievably easy for what seems a huge step the first time.

Unfortunately for us, we were flying high on equity and the low interest rates (early 2022) when we decided to jump on board but did not make some important decisions when required to reduce our debt levels or spending when the economy ran into some issues (late 2022 to 2023).

Despite the bank declining the rest of our mortgage 12 months after providing the deposit and the fact we were contractually obligated to complete our purchase, Dennis (our property partner) & Andrew ( Managing Partner) were very understanding of our situation and quick to jump to our aid....once again working as a partnership between us, Opes, the developer, brokers, lawyers and accountants to ensure the best possible outcome for all involved.

Although a bitter sweet moment for us at the time, we will forever be indebted to Opes for the way were were treated and helped out of a potentially dire situation.

I whole heartedly believe in what Opes provide and once the market recovers, and with our lessons learned, we will touch base again to re-start our 10 year plan!

No, I don't get kickbacks or work for them, just a very satisfied customer

OPES was recommended to me by a trusted colleague during a discussion we had about property investing. I contacted OPES and have never looked back. OPES provided a seamless, experience based on the latest and legacy economic and property sales data, their in-house economist Ed does deep dives into property statistics in all the regions and much like Tony Alexander has an enormous grasp on what is going on in the market. Andrew, after looking at our situation and financial position and goals provided a tailored package for my wife and I. The whole experience was excellent as OPES only deals with top-quality established developers as well. Our developer was Neilston Homes who again I cannot fault building two beautiful modern townhouses for us to purchase. I have no hesitation, and would in fact encourage people who are looking at property investment to deal with OPES, I really can't speak highly enough of them. Their administration and communication are outstanding and we were kept totally informed and guided through every step from start to finish.

It was a great experience working with Opes from top to bottom. The knowledge of the team makes investing in property so smooth and stress free. They always promptly answer your questions and concerns. They basically hold your hands to guide you through the process of building your wealth.

For example, Maxine calmly guided us through this process and referred articles and links for us to read to gain informative knowledge. This was helpful when we don’t know a lot of investment.

Secondly, a big thank you to Andrew and Ed where I suggested a podcast topic to clear my queries. They humbly thanked me for the suggestion and then within a short time, they presented this topic with relevant information from professionals. It was much appreciated to be heard and act on when you know that they had so much going on with their tours and schedules. I do wonder do they actually sleep🤣. Their sense of humour makes it so much fun to learn about investment. Thank you for assisting kiwis for investing. This is a fantastic platform to take about investing when it is not a commonly talked about.

Another big thank you to Jason Bruce our mortgage broker who has active communication skills at the same time makes you comfortable. Fantastic Experience and top class advice.

Every touch point at Opes was excellent. They provided First Class advice and communication. I would gladly recommend Opes to all my friends family and work colleagues. After sitting on the fence for the past 5 yrs, eventually listening to Wealth Plan and meeting Derry at Opes Partners give us all of the answers that we were looking for.

I would like to say a huge and profound thank you for all your help throughout this process. When we bought our first house in 2020 the process was nowhere near as smooth, and this time I think I spent about half an hour thinking "...wow, that went without a hitch!"

Both in our early 60s and wanted to have another investment strategy

We have just settled on a new build investment property. We want to highly recommend Toby for his help navigating us through this. We are both in our early 60s and wanted to have another investment strategy for when we retire. They have daily discussions about relevant property investment issues/topics & government policies-- plus Mailbox sessions with lots of detailed answers & examples. There are over 600 episodes available, and they cover a lot! Highly recommend for anyone looking to learn more about property investment in NZ.

Found excellent tenants a week from settlement

My wife and I bought our first investment property through Opes earlier this year, and thought the tools, information and support they provided throughout the process was amazing! We had listened to the podcast and used the excellent 'return on Investment' spreadsheet for about a year before we decided an investment property was the right thing for us, and it was the right time in the market. We were pretty cautious at first, but having the tools and information to run the numbers and feel we were making an informed decision in our own time really helped! Maxine at Opes provided us comprehensive info packs on 3 recommended new-build options in our price range, and we decided on one that was already completed to go ahead with. As it was our first investment property, there were so many steps that we really had no idea about- like setting up a look through company, and getting prpperty and chattel valuations - but Tina at Opes had this great checklist for us to work through, and helped us so much through the process. We also decided to use Opes property management service, and they have been great - they found excellent tenants a week from settlement, and we've had no issues! Throughout the process we were very happy with the service Opes offered, and would highly recommend working with them... Cheers to Maxine and Tina for the patience, time and support along the way!

Derry Brown was our Property Partner at OPES Auckland and we enjoyed working alongside him to purchase our new build property in Rolleston. There was no pushy sales talk

We were looking for property investment opportunities, but nothing so far had made me feel confident. Then our friends suggested Opes so we got in touch. Derry took us through the process of creating a wealth plan to get pretty clear figures on what we had to do in the next 20 years to have enough money for a comfortable retirement.

Going though all the factors to make sure the decision was the right one and that we could have changed our minds and all been in agreement if that is what needed to happen.

Always put us first as clients

Opes give you a lot of information and take you through the purchase process fast and efficiently. They helped us with all the aspects of purchase and have multiple professionals (and close relationships with partners) to help at all steps (mortgage brokers, valuers, insurance, lawyers, accountants, property managers… everything you need) Only point to note- be mindful they are paid by developers and although they have obligations to you under fma etc, just ensure you are comfortable with their advice. (The cynic in me felt a bit like I was the product and developer is client). No issues so far though - just something to be mindful of in this type of relationship. Our advisor Derry throughout the process was amazing and even organised a last minute price negotiation during conditional contract process which I was super impressed with. He was very helpful, presented all the information very clearly, answered all our questions and followed up on our questions (even the stupid ones). Always put us first as clients which is what you want. Our mortgage advisor (also Opes) was April - she’s also incredible so get her if you can. Very efficient and gets a good deal- pushes banks around. Thanks to whole team for their support!

Every so often you come across people who are exemplary. Kathy and Olivia are a team like no other, a force in fact.

I would be lost without them, their professionalism, exceptional level of service, care and attention to detail are simply unmatched. In a world of clicks, robots, call centers and increasing levels of artificial contact, Kathy and Olivia are a breath of fresh air, they shine high above the rest. When it comes to the world of property investment, it is crucial to seek out those that are experts in their field - Opes are the benchmark in my opinion after dealing with multiple other so called "property experts" I can 100% vouch for this.

I was initially sceptical about Opes partner but they have proven themselves after working with them and listening to their podcast.

I love their transparency that they might not fit for everyone. They provide pros and cons to allow you to make informed decisions. They clearly tell you how they get paid and their associate services such as Opes mortgage. They respect your choice of not using their services. You can always have an initial meeting with their professional for free to see if they are fit for your needs. Property Academy podcast and their website are fantastic ways to learn about properties. I’m warning you that their podcast is so informative at the same time entertaining. It is addictive to listen to.

Buying a new build for the first time could be very stressful but this team is so experienced that they work with you to negate that. Let me explain further.

Maxine, our finically adviser, tailored to our needs and presented suitable properties. She cleared all concerns we have so that we were clear with our goal and decisions. Tina, client relationship manager, hold our hands to work through the building process

(up till settlement). She facilitated us to liaise with our builder, lawyer, accountant, mortgage broker, and other relevant professionals to ensure things are put into places. Jason, our Opes mortgage adviser, went extra miles to give us the best deal. We really appreciate that.

I recently had dealings with Opes Property Management Christchurch, and all I can say is that I received one of the best ever experiences with property management in my time of renting properties. I strongly recommend Opes. They have made this process which could be highly stressful, absolutely stressless. And they are very prompt in answering questions. And always willing to work to your time schedule. The level of professionalism is very impressive.

I have recently started working with Opes in terms of building a property portfolio. I am still very much in the process. Our offer on the first property has gone unconditional but it will not settle till January 2025. So, the journey is not complete yet.

But at this point of time. I am very happy I decided to approach Opes. Our CRM Jeremy Ferguson along with April Hastilow, Carina Fox and Bill McGavock have made this process extremely easy and stressless.

Could I have done this on my own? Most likely not. For one thing, time is a huge constraint for me. Clearly, I could have done this much earlier but did not. It was only after I got in touch with Opes that I made progress. Second, there are lots of calculations involved and the spreadsheets provided by Jeremy in simulating different outcomes were hugely beneficial. There is a lot of nitty gritty knowledge involved, whether it is figuring out the best possible loan structure or the projected costs/rental income/cash flow that someone not steeped in the process would not be familiar with.

Opes provides a wealth of expertise and wisdom that is not easily available. Maybe you can acquire this on your own but for people with other commitments, the opportunity cost of taking the time out of work to do this is very high and often impossible. You will need to devote a lot of time to acquire the information that Opes brings to the table.

Overall, I strongly recommend Opes. They have made this process which could be highly stressful, absolutely stressless. And they are very prompt in answering questions. And always willing to work to your time schedule. The level of professionalism is very impressive.

I have learned an incredible lot through the process, and I fully anticipate working with Jeremy and Opes going forward in creating a retirement portfolio. (The Opes podcasts, many by Ed McKnight are also worth listening to.)
